Europe Week 2021 - what a blast!

For the first time, BFGTOEU organised a Europe Week with a booklet full of resources and activities for the teachers and children. We were delighted to see children using their curiosity and creativity to discover more about the EU and celebrate the club.

The highlight was certainly the Europe Day Zoom quizzes which brought together more than 7,000 children, aged between 7 and 12, from eight different countries – Ireland, France, Greece, Spain, Poland, Romania, Armenia and Moldova. We were very lucky to be joined by Irish MEPs at the end of each quiz for a brief discussion. We even made the Greek papers on 11 May 2021, praising such an innovative way of celebrating Europe day!

Children from so many schools across Ireland took part. In particular, Rathmichael NS 6th class and Windgap NS 3rd and 4th class showed their skills! Kilcoe NS even got dressed up for the quiz.

What better way to celebrate solidarity in the EU than to engage in collaborative art! Ballymoney NS Junior room, Nagle Rice 2nd class and  Scoil Phadraig Naofa 6th class delivered those beautiful portraits and maps of the EU. Nagle Rice 1st and 2nd class also demonstrated their creativity with acrostic poems on the EU.

Teachers also used their creativity to devise activities exploring individual members of the club. Children expertly presented or drew on each country. Midleton ETNS focused on the EU’s landmarks. Scoil N Erc explored individual countries. St Michael’s NS looked at countries’ climates and topography.
