Graduation Day 2019
For the second year in a row, my BFGtoEU was delighted to organise a graduation day on 28 May 2019 to celebrate the achievement of children from 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes. 200 children from Galescoil Mhachan, Kilmurry NS and Riverstown NS as well as their teachers and parents came to UCC main campus to enjoy a day of celebration after they completed their 6 week programme on Ireland and the European Union. We were delighted to have Cork’s legend, world champion and olympic medallist race walker, Rob Heffernan to come and deliver the graduation speech and enthuse the children about his travels across the EU.
All children were in gown with caps and had class pictures taken. They received their completion certificate and enjoyed a tour of UCC, a bit of food as well as a special cinema session in one of the lecture halls. The Lord Mayor Cllr Mick Finn and the Deputy President of UCC were in attendance. We were lucky with the weather and the innovation of throwing their caps at the end of the graduation gave the children a great giggle.
This year, we innovated with a special day of graduation in the community for our younger graduates. We went into Kilmurry NS with the gowns, caps, balloons and sweets to celebrate the achievement of the Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class in completing a 4 week programme on Ireland and the EU. Dr Aodh Quinlivan came in full academic gown and hand-delivered to each child in their classroom their certificate. The children were so proud and had their individual as well as a class picture taken.
