My Big Friendly Guide To The European Union

My Big Friendly Guide to the European Union is an innovative teaching and learning programme. It aims at developing awareness, knowledge and debate at primary school level on the European Union and Ireland’s role within it. In November 2020, it takes part in Cork Discovers, a Europe-wide event connecting researchers and society. Check it out!

It is children and teacher friendly allowing the students to learn about but also question the European Union. Crucially, it fits perfectly into the current Social Personal and Health Education curriculum, particularly when discussing critical thinking, citizenship and media education.

Over 2018 and 2019, this programme was piloted from Juniors to 6th class in 6 different schools across Cork City and County. 35 teachers took part in our very first CPD course in July 2019. The teachers and children have co-constructed this programme which reflects an intense and creative collaboration between the primary and third level of education. It is about empowering the children to make informed decisions to improve the world they live in.

So let’s spark debate with Seamie Shamrock!

Join us in 2021… Register your class or your school and let’s talk about Ireland and the EU!
